Kirihimete Cocktail Evening
The Kirihimete Cocktail party was the main event last season marking the end of 2017. It was a time to join with the extended TupuToa whānau to celebrate another significant year of growth and achievement.
The event took place in the Fale Pasifika, at the University of Auckland, over a spread inspired by classic Pasifika cuisine; it was a modern take on the traditional ‘Kai Pola’ or grazing table.
We were joined by our TupuToa interns, alumni, and corporate, public and scholarship partners. TupuToa interns Clevell Chang-Tung (Russell McVeagh) and Paturihi Nowell (Air New Zealand) spoke briefly about their experience in the programme. Clevell mentioned the literal ‘fresh’ perspective and unique value each intern brings into every organisation.
Our keynote speaker was Scott Pickering, CEO of ACC New Zealand. Scott expressed that there was an excess demand for Māori and Pasifika interns in his organisation and further described the internship programme as a definite pathway to employment.
It was an enjoyable and inspiring end to another successful year and we look forward to 2018.
