New Iwi Partnerships

Over the last year TupuToa have identified the importance of establishing partnerships with Iwi across the motu. Its importance lies within the role Māori have as mana whenua. This year we have introduced a new category of partnership – Iwi Partnership Mana Whenua – as part of our partnership model we operate.

Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei has been an important partner since our establishment 5 years ago. We continue to work alongside them and their internal internship programme. We acknowledge them as the Mana Whenua here in Tāmaki Makaurau where we are primarily based.

This year saw us partner with Tuaropaki an ahu whenua land trust based at Mōkai north of Taupo. We have entered an agreement where four of their beneficiaries will come aboard and be part of the summer internship programme. We have worked with Te Wehi Wright – Cultural and Legacy Programme Co-Ordinator – in identifying four of their best uri and placing them with one of our organisational partners. Nau mai, haere mai koutou.

Our Iwi Partnership Mana Whenua category is set to grow with initial conversations being had with other significant iwi and land trusts in the areas we currently are operating in. The expectation is that through these new partnerships, the mahi of TupuToa will assist in the aspirations of iwi across Aotearoa.
